Service Statement

Page history last edited by Timothy Karas 6 mos ago

The Mission College Library provides free and open access to public areas of its facilities, collections, and on-site services. It endeavors to equitably lend materials without charge according to format, location, loan, and user-specific policies. The Library provides information in a timely, confidential and responsive manner. All Library staff will make every effort to be helpful, approachable and courteous. Information will be provided efficiently, accurately and without regard to age, race, sex, nationality, educational background, physical limitations, or any other criteria that may be the source of discrimination. The needs of all library users will be taken seriously and treated with respect. Equal consideration and treatment will be given to all users in conformance with Library policy.

Service to Library users takes precedence over all other work; the basic function of the Library staff is to provide service and information in a cordial, impartial, and businesslike manner.

All interactions and transactions with a library user will be considered confidential unless otherwise disallowed by law. Such matters include, but are not limited to, registration information, materials selection, loan transaction records, and professional reference consultation.

Library staff will make every attempt to make the use of the library as convenient and easy as possible. Whenever possible, the staff will communicate without the use of library jargon. Every effort will be made to make the first-time library user feel comfortable. Staff will not assume, for example, that a user knows how to locate information without orientation and assistance.

The Library will be a safe and harassment-free environment for study, writing, reading and research. All library rules will be based upon respecting the collective needs of library users and protecting the library’s collection from damage or loss. Every attempt will be made to see that library rules are fair and do not restrict the primary objectives of serving Mission College library users, and providing information.

Anyone who believes that service at the Mission College Library has not met his or her needs, should first speak directly with a staff member. If the problem is not addressed to the person’s satisfaction, the individual is encouraged to speak with a duty Librarian or to submit a Mission College Library Feedback form.
