Library registration is required at either Mission College Library or West Valley College Library for access to many District Library services and privileges.
Mission College Library Check Out Desk staff will register and update library records on site, in-person, for students, faculty or classified staff whose home campus is either Mission Valley College, West Valley College, or for students, faculty or classified staff who may be affiliated with both colleges. Mission College Library Registration Forms are available for user convenience if written communication is preferred.
Persons not registered automatically include all faculty, classified staff and occasionally late enrollees. If Library registration was not automatic, registrants will be required to present an official photo I.D. Persons without a current semester-validated Mission College or West Valley College I.D. card will be asked to wait in line until persons with current semester-validated Mission College or West Valley College I.D. cards are served first.
A student is an individual currently enrolled in one or more classes offered by the West Valley Mission Community College District. Enrollment may be for credit, non-credit, audit, full-semester, middle college, or short classes including Community Education.
Currently enrolled students within the West Valley Mission Community College District are usually automatically registered as either West Valley College or Mission College Library users.
Mission College Library student registration or registration updating requires proof of enrollment for the current semester. Proof of enrollment includes, in preferred order:
1. Mission College or West Valley College Student photo I.D. card, with current academic semester validation sticker, or
2. Mission College or West Valley College temporary Student I.D. card valid for the current semester, along with an official state Driver's License, state picture I.D. card, or current photo Passport, or
Datatel enrollment verification by a Library staff member, along with verification of an official state Driver's License or photo I.D. Datatel enrollment must be for the current semester, or
3. Printed official Mission College or West Valley College Enrollment Form (such as an enrollment receipt from the Cashier’s Office) which must be presented with an official state Driver's License, state picture I.D. card, or current photo Passport.
Faculty are defined as full- or part-time instructors, counselors, librarians, lab supervisors, nurses, computer technicians, etc., whose Datatel verification includes a current faculty status code at Mission College, West Valley College, or both colleges.
Affiliated faculty and classified staff are responsible for initiating their Library registration at the Check Out Desk.
Active faculty registration expiration dates are globally updated annually in August to expire on December 31 five years from the current year.
Mission College Library faculty registration requires proof of faculty status. Proof of faculty status includes includes either:
1. A Faculty/Staff Mission College or West Valley College photo I.D. card, or
2. Datatel faculty status verification by a Library staff member, along with verification of an official state Driver's License or state photo I.D. card, or an official photo Passport, or
3. Personal verification by a classified or faculty Library staff member.
Emeritus faculty are defined as faculty retired from the West Valley Mission Community College District, whose Datatel verification includes an active faculty status code at Mission College, West Valley College, or both colleges. Emeritus faculty have the same library privileges as regular faculty.
Emeritus faculty are responsible for initiating their Library registration at the Check Out Desk.
Emeritus faculty registration expiration dates are globally updated annually in August to expire December 31 five years from the current year.
Emeritus faculty registration requires proof of faculty status. Proof of faculty status includes either:
1. A Faculty/Staff Mission College or West Valley College photo I.D. card, or
2. Datatel faculty status verification by a Library staff member, along with verification of an official state Driver's License or state photo I.D. card, or an official photo Passport, or
3. Personal verification by a classified or faculty Library staff member.
District staff are defined as any full time or part time classified employee, or temporary replacement for a classified employee, of Mission College, West Valley College, or both colleges.
Active classified staff registration expiration dates are globally updated annually in August to expire on December 31 two years from the current year.
Proof of staff status includes either:
1. A Faculty/Staff Mission College or West Valley College I.D. card, or
2. Datatel classified staff status verification by a Library staff member, along with verification of an offcial state Driver's License or state photo I.D. card or an official photo Passport, or
3. Personal verification by a permanent classified or faculty Library staff member.
Community users are defined as a Santa Clara County resident, age 18 or older, unless enrolled at Mission College or West Valley College. If enrolled as a student at Mission College or West Valley College, student registration rules apply.
Santa Clara County Resident
Community users residing in Santa Clara County with a valid library card from a LINK+ visiting patron Library will not be issued a community borrower card. These users will use their home library card and LINK+ rules will apply.
Mission College Library staff will register without charge Santa Clara County residents age 18 and older without a library card from a LINK+ Library as a Community Users.
Proof of county residence includes either:
A. Library staff verification of an official state Driver's License or state picture I.D. card showing a valid county address; if a valid county address is not displayed on the official I.D. a copy of a current rent receipt, utility bill, vehicle registration, insurance card, etc., which displays a valid county address will be presented with the official state Driver's License or photo I.D. card or
B. Notarized Affidavit of Residency verified by a Library staff member along with an official state Driver’s License or state picture I.D. or Passport.
Mission College Library cannot provide the same full user privileges as District students or as offered to community users at West Valley College. West Valley College presently charges $50 per annum for Santa Clara County community users.
Non Santa Clara County Resident
Users residing in other California Counties with a valid library card from a LINK+ visiting patron Library can use this card to borrow items from Mission College. These users will use their home library card and LINK+ rules will apply. Users residing outside Santa Clara County will not be issued community cards unless authorized by the Library Director or on-duty librarian for exceptional circumstances.

Visitors are defined as persons without West Valley Mission Community College District current enrollment or affiliation and without Santa Clara county residence. Visitors do not qualify for Library registration. A visitor is any person who may be from any country of origin, of any race, ethnic group, marital status, health or disability status, age 18 or older. Persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian age 18 or older.
