CD-ROMs and Compact Discs

Page history last edited by Timothy Karas 8 mos ago

Not all CD-ROMs are executable and can be played on the library's public computers. Only CD-ROMs that include the programs required to execute them will execute on library computers. Library staff do not regularly identify executable program availability on CD-ROMs before CD-ROMs are added to collections. CD-ROMs owned by the library or on Instructor Reserve may or may not be executable on library computers.

CDs held by Mission College Library include:

1. CD-ROMs physically inside circulating books. These items circulated as part of the accompany book. No effort is made to keep track of these items separate from their companion book. See also CD-ROM guidance in the Mission College Collection Development Policy.

2. Textbook CD-ROMs physically inside reserve textbooks, located behind the Check Out Desk and circulated as part of the accompanying textbook.

3. Instructor Reserve CD-ROMs, located behind the Check Out Desk and filed under the instructor's name. These items can be requested at the Check Out Desk and circulate for one hour, in-library use only. Although library staff are not able to individually review each instructor reserve CD-ROM for executable capability, library staff will notify instructors when non-executable CD-ROMs are discovered.

4. Music CDs, located on shelving by the new books display. These items circulate for 3 weeks.
